Temptation to clarity

In company with William Blank’s «Reflecting Black»

Jérémie Wenger
Reflecting Black – a double name for William Blank’s recently created largescale piece for piano and orchestra, inspired by the art of Pierre Soulages: darkness, light. Using a reconfigured spatialization and a specific orchestration (notably only a solo violin instead of the first violins, and the use of a second piano tuned a quarter tone higher), the composer explores the duality between light and dark throughout the two movements. In this study, we tried to avoid too narrow selections of specific passages, and instead strived for a global conceptualisation of the work, with a specific stress on auditive perception and analysis.
