Laboratories of Improvised Music

A “Tour de Suisse” as a Niche-Market Parade

Thomas Meyer
Most of the time, improvised music does not take place in those concert venues where its actual close relative, the so-called “New Music”, has found its home. Improvised music seeks its own niches, creates its own biotope, the spatial and social conditions of which are distinct from the world of notated music. Thomas Meyer undertakes an incomplete “Tour de Suisse” through these laboratories of improvised music, introducing us to the WiM in Zurich, the Mullbau in Lucerne, and the improvising scene in Biel and Lausanne.
